Continuing Support through SRD Grant

Despite the prominence of permanent Sassa grants in the news, the monthly R350 grant continues to assist over 7 million qualifying recipients. Initially introduced to aid those adversely affected by the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, the grant has extended thrice in duration, with the current cycle ending on March 31, 2024.

Eligibility for R350 Grant

To be eligible for the R350 grant, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be unemployed.
  2. Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or possess a special permit under various dispensations.
  3. Age between 18 and 59 years.
  4. Reside within South Africa’s borders.
  5. Be registered on the Home Affairs or Sassa’s social grant databases.
  6. Not live in a government or subsidized institution.
  7. Not receiving UIF benefits, NSFAS support, or other Sassa-distributed grants.

Application Process for the R350 Grant

If you belong to the category of eligible grant recipients but haven’t applied yet, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the SRD grant website.
  2. Click on ‘click here to apply online.’
  3. Enter your mobile phone number and click ‘send SMS.’
  4. Receive and enter the One Time Pin (OTP) sent to your number.
  5. Confirm and accept the Declaration and Consent clauses.
  6. Provide personal details, employment information, and lifestyle sustainability details.
  7. Enter your banking information.
  8. Follow the prompts to complete the application.

Alternatively, Apply via WhatsApp

You can also apply for the Sassa grant through WhatsApp:

  1. Add Sassa on WhatsApp: 082 046 8553.
  2. Send a message with “SRD Grant.”
  3. Indicate self-application (send 1) or application for someone else (send 2).
  4. Provide your name and surname as per your ID.
  5. Accept terms and conditions.
  6. Specify citizenship status.
  7. Click on the sent link.
  8. Confirm and accept Declaration and Consent.
  9. Enter your ID number.
  10. Follow the prompts to complete the application.

Appealing a Rejected Application

If your application is rejected for an unjustified reason, consider submitting an application appeal (reconsideration):

  1. Submit within 90 days of rejection to validate your appeal.
  2. Visit the SASSA appeals website.
  3. Enter your South African ID number and cell phone number.
  4. Receive and enter the verification pin from the SMS.
  5. Select the appeal month and reason.
  6. Submit the appeal.

Collecting the Grant

Beneficiaries can collect the R350 grant from designated retail outlets like Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, and Spar. Ensure to validate your identity by presenting proof when collecting the grant.
