Extended Expiry Date for Sassa Gold Cards: Secure Your Benefits

Renew Your Sassa Gold Card Before Expiry Essential Information for Beneficiaries. Sassa beneficiaries are strongly advised to take action regarding their expiring Sassa gold cards. The Department of Social Development has formulated a strategy to provide assistance to beneficiaries in the upcoming months.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has prolonged the expiration date of Gold Cards to December 31, 2023. This necessitates beneficiaries to take steps to renew their cards before the approaching year.

Urgent Update for Sassa Beneficiaries: Card Renewal at Post Office Branches

In an official communication earlier this year, Sassa grant beneficiaries whose gold cards were set to expire in March 2023 were urged to visit nearby Post Office branches to obtain their new cards.

Priority will be given to those whose cards are expiring in March.

Continued Usage of Expiring Cards: Sassa’s Relief Measures

Sassa has thankfully granted an extension for the usage of Gold Cards until the December deadline. This means that millions of individuals will continue to receive their grants without disruptions to their social security.

Sassa expresses appreciation for the decision by the Payment Association of South Africa (PASA) to extend the validity of expired cards. This extension ensures that social grant transactions can still be conducted at ATMs and retail establishments.

The Agency emphasizes that this extension is fantastic news for its beneficiaries, allowing them to carry on using their cards as usual until the end of 2023.

Efforts by Sassa and Postbank: Preparedness for Card Replacement

The Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, has revealed that the Post Office possesses records of all expired cards. Beneficiaries will be informed about a “staggered approach” to the Sassa card replacement process.

The Postbank team has outlined a comprehensive Sassa Card Replacement Distribution Plan, serving as the blueprint for the replacement initiative.

In line with the “staggered approach,” beneficiaries are likely to receive their new Gold Cards in the month their current card expires.

Postbank is prepared to dedicate around 2000 employees to oversee the replacement procedure. The Sassa Card Replacement Distribution Plan aims to ensure timely dissemination of crucial information to the public, allowing beneficiaries ample time to secure their new cards.

Transition to New Gold Cards: Important Updates

All Gold Cards will be replaced with black cards, a fact that will be communicated to the public. Postbank is diligently working to ensure that card issuance is completed before December 2023.

Accessible Collection Points and Usage of Expired Cards

Beneficiaries can continue to collect their grants at their regular collection points and use their expired Sassa gold cards at participating retail outlets such as Checkers, Shoprite, Usave, OK, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and others.

Expired Sassa/Postbank Gold Cards can be utilized at various National Payments System points, including ATMs, point-of-sale purchases, Post Office branches, and Sassa cash payment centers.

Upcoming Notifications for Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries will receive notifications regarding the requirement to collect their new Sassa/Postbank gold cards. Meanwhile, they can continue using their expired gold cards as before.
