SASSA Child Grant Increase May 2023 Updates

The South African Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, announced in the highly anticipated 2023 Budget Speech that the government plans to increase the amount paid out to Child Support Grant and Foster Care Grant recipients. As of 1 October 2023, the increase will become effective.

The SASSA Child Support Grant will increase from R480 to R510, an increase of R30, according to Minister Godongwana during his speech. In order to help cover the cost of raising children, many families will welcome this increase.

As part of the increase, the Foster Care Grant will also increase to R1130, an increase of R60. Children’s grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other caregivers receive this grant if they take care of their grandchildren.
