SASSA Child support grant (CSG) top-up

From 1 June 2022, caregivers who qualify may apply for the CSG top-up at their local SASSA office or online at services.sassa.gov.za.

In order to provide for the basic needs of orphaned relatives, a CSG top-up is being introduced. Orphans are kept in familiar environments without being taken out of their extended families.

In addition to their R480 CSG, these children will receive an additional R240, making a total of R720 for each child.

Applicants must provide the following information to prove that a child is an orphan:

Copies of the child’s parents’ death certificates,
Alternatively, if the applicant cannot obtain the death certificate of one of the parents, the applicant must submit an affidavit attesting to the unknown status of the child’s other parent.
