The distribution of social grants for March will soon take place. Each month, these grants provide a lifeline for millions of South Africans.

From tomorrow, 2 March 2023, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will begin distributing permanent grant payments. A few weeks ago, the agency announced payment dates for March 2023. Benefits can be withdrawn at any time from Sassa grants, which are usually distributed on a monthly basis.

First, Sassa will distribute payments for the Older Persons grant on Thursday, 2 March, followed by payments for Disability grants on Friday, 3 March 2023. In the coming weeks, beneficiaries will receive the remaining grants. 

Here Are The SASSA Grant Payment Dates For March 2023

• Older Person’s Grants: Thursday, 2 March 2023 
• Disability Grants: Friday, 3 March 2023 
• Child support and other grants: Monday, 6 March 2023

Sassa wishes to remind grant recipients that they are not required to collect their grants on the exact payment date. Once the grant has been paid, the money will remain available until the beneficiary collects it.

Beneficiaries can currently collect grants in several different ways. Cash can be collected at ATMs and retail stores such as Shoprite Checkers, U-Save, Pick n Pay, and Boxer.

In order to prevent fraud, SASSA beneficiaries must provide their ID and cellphone numbers, and ensure that this is the same cellphone number they used to register on the SASSA database. 

SASSA can also direct deposit grant money into beneficiaries’ bank accounts, if that is their preferred method of collecting grant funds.

When applying for a grant, the beneficiary’s banking details are provided; SASSA has encouraged recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to provide their preferred payment method, as this would allow them to collect their grant wherever they are.Beneficiaries are also urged not to collect their SRD grant payments at the South African Post Office (SAPO), as the post office is no longer an outlet for grant payment collection.
