Here Are The Sassa Social Grant Increases For 20232024

People who depend on Sassa social grants will be pleased to know there has been an increase in their monthly payments due to the persistent increase in the cost of living in the country.

As part of his much-anticipated budget speech for the 2023/24 financial year, Finance Enoch Godongwana announced an increase in social grants of roughly 5%.

The Sassa Social Grant Increases For 2023 / 2024

As a result of an allocation of R400 million to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), the Minister outlined the following increases to permanent grants

  • Those over 75 will receive a grant of R2,105 instead of R1,985, whereas those under 75 will receive R1,985.
  • War veterans’ grants will increase from R2,005 to R2,105.
  • From R1 990 to R2085 will be increased for Disability Grants.
  • There will be a R1,050 increase in the foster care grant  to R1,125. 
  • A R2,085 increase will be made to the Care dependency grant.
  • R480 will be increased to R505 for child support grants.
  • The grant-in-aid program will also see an increase, from R480 to R500.

What Godongwana say

Over the next three years, Godongwana expects a rise in beneficiaries, and child care and old age benefits will continue to receive the highest government funding.

“Over the MTEF period, child support grants and old age grants accounted for about 70% of total grant expenditures. A total of 17.5 million beneficiaries will receive these two grants in 2023/24. In the medium term, social grants will increase in line with inflation.” Godongwana said.

By March 2026, the government expects to cover 19.6 million beneficiaries with permanent social grants, up from 18.6 million beneficiaries in March 2023.
