Over 18 million permanent social grants are distributed every month by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). In the first week of every month, Sassa grants are disbursed to permanent beneficiaries.

Sassa distributes a variety of permanent grants, including those for older people, disabled people, war veterans, and families. Sassa also distributes care dependency grants, foster care grants, and child support grants with top-ups.

During May 2023, grants will be paid out starting on Wednesday, 3 May 2023 with the distribution of grants for older people. After that, we will distribute the disability grants and children’s grants later in the week.

Alternatively, beneficiaries may choose to have their grant directly deposited into their bank accounts through Sassa. Having access to their money anytime makes this an attractive option for many beneficiaries.

The first day is not the right time to withdraw cash. In the event the money does not need to be used immediately, it will remain in the account until the need for it arises.

Despite failing to collect their money on the set date, Sassa assured beneficiaries that their money will still be available. As the beneficiary’s account will remain empty after the payment has been made.
