The Social Relief of Distress Grant

A Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is administered in accordance with Appendix 32 of the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004), and is implemented with the concurrence of the Finance Minister.

The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is intended for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years old, who have insufficient means, do not receive social grants on behalf of themselves/him, do not contribute to or qualify for UIF payments, and do not receive any other financial assistance.

Applications will be considered by SASSA only if applicants or their proxy provide the below information

Important to Note

If SASSA rejects your application, you can appeal the decision by filing an appeal with the Department of Social Development for each month that your application was rejected. How To Get Sassa Grant Sent To Your Bank Account?

Receiving payments via your bank account is probably the most convenient payment method and fastest way to receive the grant, it also means you can avoid queuing in person at the Post Office.

The amounts for each month will be paid into the bank account of the beneficiary as per the grant application. Please note that the bank details or cellular phone number provided for payment MUST be registered in the name of the approved applicant used in the Covid-19 R350 grant application process to make sure that payment goes to the correct recipients.

What is my SASSA Status is Pending?

How do I Change my Banking Details

Those who are approved beneficiaries of the SASSA SRD R350 Grant and wish to change their banking details should submit their ID Number below. You will receive an SMS with a link, unique to you, to the mobile phone number you registered during the application process. Simply click on the link in the SMS and follow the instructions carefully.

Please ensure that you are the owner of the bank account if you choose to make payment via a bank account. Grants cannot be paid into someone else’s bank account by SASSA. Please ensure that the mobile number on which you received the SMS is registered in your name if you choose the money transfer option via one of the major banks. A grant cannot be paid into a mobile phone number registered to another person by SASSA. Note that the new banking details will only be used for future payments after verification.

Monday through Friday, SASSA branches open between 7:30 am and 8am and close between 4:30pm and 5pm (exact opening and closing times vary by branch). The SASSA is open Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends and public holidays.
