- Visit the official Sassa SRD website (https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status).
- Locate the “Application Status” section.
- Enter your South African ID number and the phone number you used during application.
- Click “Check Status.” You might receive a one-time PIN (OTP) via SMS.
- Enter the OTP to view your application status.
SASSA Status Check Via WhatsApp
- Save the SASSA WhatsApp number (082 046 8553) to your contacts.
- Open WhatsApp and send a message to SASSA saying “Status” followed by your ID number (e.g., “Status 1234567890“).
- SASSA will reply with your application details, including any payment dates (if applicable) and your eligibility status.
Understanding Your Sassa Status
- Pending: Be patient. Applications are reviewed, and processing times can vary.
- Approved: You’ll receive an SMS notification when your R370 grant is ready for collection at Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, or Boxer stores. Alternatively, you can choose a direct bank deposit (if applicable).

Who Qualifies for the SRD Grant?
Applicants must meet specific criteria to qualify for the SRD grant in South Africa which includes being a South African citizen, resident, or special permit holder.
Beneficiaries of the grant may not receive other government support like UIF benefits or NSFAS bursaries and they must have a bank balance below R624.
Appealing a Declined Application

Those who choose to appeal must submit a separate appeal for each month your application was rejected. The ITSAA aims to finalize appeals within 60-90 days. Their decision is final, but applicants can request a judicial review within 180 days of receiving the ITSAA decision.
