When & Where To Collect Your New Sassa Card

A new gold card can be obtained by grant beneficiaries through the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). In the coming months, many beneficiaries will be required to collect new gold cards since their current ones are about to expire.

Sassa gold cards work like regular bank cards. Gold card holders can withdraw money at ATMs, retail stores, and supermarkets of their choice.

Sassa gold cards can be collected at a Post Office branch by beneficiaries whose current cards are about to expire. Only beneficiaries whose cards expire in March 2023 should visit a Post Office to obtain a new one.

Post Office gold cards are only issued in the name of the person whose card is expiring. A person cannot collect a new Sassa gold card on behalf of another unless they are registered as a procurator with Sassa.

When You Can Collect A Gold Card

We issue new gold cards to old age grant beneficiaries and disability grant beneficiaries on Mondays and Tuesdays.New gold cards are issued to beneficiaries of child support grants and all remaining grants from Wednesdays to Saturdays.

• Mondays to Fridays : 8 AM  – 4 PM
•  Saturday: 9 AM – 1 PM
•  Sunday: Closed

What Is Needed To Collect A New Sassa Gold Card:

• Your South African Identity Document (ID)
• Your Sassa gold card expiring in March 2023

Post Office staff will assist grant beneficiaries in activating their new gold cards and selecting a PIN. The card will be fully operational once this is completed, allowing grant recipients to make transactions and withdrawals.

Those who have lost their gold cards can also obtain a new one at the Post Office. Post Office staff will conduct a verification check before issuing a new card, Sassa said.

Post Office branch personnel will use fingerprint verification to issue the beneficiary with a new Sassa/Postbank Gold card 

The Post Office discourages individuals whose Sassa gold cards do not expire in March 2023 or the corresponding month from visiting.
